Hi, I'm Ollie and I'll be your teacher for this course. I'm going to teach you how to design for noisy environments while providing natural ventilation for occupants. You'll learn how to do this at different stages and scales of design, including; building envelopes in urban design, space planning, and at the detail design stage. I hope you enjoy the tutorials, Ollie

Designing for Noise & Natural Ventilation

A Practical Guide for Non-Acousticians

This tutorial accompanies the book Designing for Noise & Natural Ventilation. Designing for noise and natural ventilation is essential for creating a healthy human habitat. By understanding how noise and ventilation interact, you can create a space that is both comfortable and efficient. This tutorial will demonstrate strategies and techniques to design for noise and natural ventilation using narrated video tutorials. Noise is often dismissed as a luxury, a nice-to-have, but unnecessary, or overlooked because of the importance of the visual sense in design. In this time of a Covid-19 pandemic, the need for a plentiful supply of fresh, clean, natural air to indoor spaces is even more critical, and air-conditioning circulating the same stale air is something to be avoided. Energy hungry air-conditioning is also unsustainable, expensive to run, and passes the cost of a poor design onto the resident.
